This looks like a bail out my friends.
As we now look back and understand some of the forces, the true question is how will this be avoided in the future. How and when will recover from this economic mess.
75bps is not enough... we need to see another 50bps....
I have to say that I concur with your assessment. In additional to cutting the FRR, President Bush needs to continue to pressure Congress in developing a bipartisan stimulus package. After listening to President Bush this afternoon, I would expect Congress in delivering a bailout package after the economic stimulus package. Unfortunately, the low rate effect only mortgages under 417k. The Jumbo Mortgage Market is not being effected by the rate cuts. Lending policies restrict lenders and home owners with a mortgage over 417k have little equity in their home's to refinance because of the 20% equity requirement.
I would expect a bailout in the coming months.
As you are aware the Feds are finally in total recognition of the seriousness of the situation . To have made such a bold move prior to the opening is they as well as the central banks around the world realize they need to confront this head on .They need and are aware that both aggressive rate and stimulatory policy will be required to avert a severe US and or world wide recession . So in response to your need for an additional 50 basis points decrease assume it will occur the question is when . I would also imagine additional cuts will be needed . The question how much more and when .
